Larry, a native Texan,  moved to this area, from his home town of Edinburg, following graduation from Howard Payne University in 1970.  While obtaining his Masters of Divinity degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, he served as Minister to Youth at Fairview Baptist Church in Grand Prairie from 1970-72.  As testament to Davis' energy, enthusiasm, and devotion, the pastor, Rev. Ernest Duncan, still fondly remembers him as one of his favorite youth ministers over the last 30 years.  Larry served at El Centro & Mountainview Colleges from 1972-73 as Baptist Student Union Director, and served as Minister of Youth and Single Adults at First Baptist Church Garland, Park Cities Baptist Church, and Wilshire Baptist Church before coming to South Garland as Pastor in June of 1990.

Larry and his wife, Marilyn, have lived in Garland since 1974, where they raised their two children, Blake and Betsy, both graduates of South Garland High School.  The couple has been very involved over the years in every aspect of their children's school activities, including baseball and cheerleading booster clubs, PTA and other class parent organizations.  Mrs. Davis, has been employed by the Baptist General Convention of Texas since 1970 and devotes much of her time loving and working with the small children and infants at the church.
