DALLAS AREA PARKINSONISM
SOCIETY
In 1996, South Garland Baptist Church
offered as a ministry to people with Parkinsons one hour of physical therapy
each week. This is under the
auspices of the Dallas Area Parkinsonism Society (DAPS), a local organization
which has furnished support for Parkinsonians for over 20 years.
Our South Garland group was started by
Charlene and Virgil Noe and has grown from 4 families to 39 families. A second day of physical therapy has been added, along with
speech therapy and a “Partners in Care” group for the caregivers of those
with Parkinsons. One of the most
rewarding additions has been our social hour and games before physical therapy.
On Monday, the group has a light lunch of
sandwiches and finger foods. On
Thursday, John Bailey, a member of South Garland Baptist Church, takes
charge of the kitchen and turns our potluck lunch into a family reunion.
Come with your person with Parkinsons and
join in the fun.
